The Jack Mytton Trail Ride
The journey takes us along the famous wooded Wenlock edge towards Church Stretton, heading up Carding mill valley onto the Long Mynd The reason for its name ( long mountain) becomes quite obvious . The rolling farm land and hillocks on its western slopes have a special charm all of their own and are very beautiful.
The final part of the journey takes us through quiet undiscovered countryside, passing through the lovely town of Clun with its medieval bridge and castle, then onto the Offas dyke path on the Welsh border, with a final descent into the Welsh village of Llanfair Waterdine. The Itinerary
Day 1
Leave Prescott Yard and head over to shropshire village of Ditton Priors, nestled into the hills of shropshire, here we stop and tie up for our first lunch stop. ( 3 hrs )
From here make our way onto the wenlock edge, dropping into Longville in the Dale for our evening stay. ( 4 hours )
B & B is arranged, evening meal is booked at the local country pub.
Day 2
Leaving Longville behind, we start out on the longest day, a beautiful trail leads us to Church Stretton for our lunch stop. ( 4 hours)
After lunch we have the arduous task of ascending Cardingmill valley, breathtaking climb. The valleys cut down into the oldest rocks in the country. The Trail continues over the Long mynd, ( the west side of the Stretton valley). The final part of the day crosses the border as we descend into Lydbury north. ( 4 hours ) for our over night stay at Walcott Hall. Beautiful estate farm
B & B is arranged, evening meal is at our hosts home.
Day 3
Final day of trail, along the stunning welsh borders, stopping at Clun a village rich in history and legend, tie up next to the castle for lunch at a local tea rooms. ( 3 hours )
Gentle afternoon along the Offa’s Dyke Path, meeting fellow walkers enjoying the outstanding views of the open countryside, the ride concludes with a woodland track into the village of Llanfair Waterdine, where weary riders are transported home, and their horses are turned out to graze the welsh grass. ( 3 hours).
